Brief Summary in Lay Language
A pre-developed training program is designed to familiarize healthcare professionals with the use of modern assistive technologies. This program, consisting of the four steps sensitization, evaluative introduction, qualification and implementation (in short: SEQI process). The target group of the training program are health professionals in elderly care facilities. SEQI is now to be examined in this study for its practicability and effectiveness. The aim is whether the SEQI process has a positive effect on the willingness of health professionals to use assistive technologies.
Brief Summary in Scientific Language
The multicentered, non-randomized intervention and feasibility study investigates the impact of an innovative training program, the so-called SEQI process, on the readiness of health professionals to integrate digital assistive technologies (DAT) into the planning and practice of their care processes. SEQI stands for "sensitization, evaluative introduction, qualification and implementation" and names the four phases of the intervention, which lasted a total of five days. Included are about 125 health care professionals in inpatient care facilities in Saxony-Anhalt, Saxony and Thuringia. The intervention will take place on-site at the respective facilities. During the first three phases of the process (workshops for sensitization, evaluative introduction, and qualification; days 1-2), the participating health professionals each choose one of six DAT offered according to the care needs of the persons they care for, which will be applied in the care of a resident during the implementation phase (days 3-5). Health professionals' readiness to use DAT in the care of the elderly and sick will be determined using the validated Technology Usage Inventory (TUI) instrument at three time points (before the SEQI process begins and before and after the implementation phase). The results of this multidimensional TUI assessment are the primary outcome measure and pro-cessed in terms of descriptive statistics. In addition, approximately ten of the participating health professionals will be invited to participate in in-depth guideline-based interviews, which will provide information on the basic feasibility and possible improvements of the SEQI process. Three months after the intervention a telephone follow-up survey of the facilities will examine whether and, if so, which DAT have found their way into the facilities' standard care. The study is carried out within the framework of the FORMAT CONTINUUM project with funding from the European Union (EFRE) and the state of Saxony-Anhalt.
