Brief Summary in Scientific Language
For psychiatric hospitals, dealing with suicidal behaviour in borderline personality disorder (BPD) patients is a major problem in everyday clinical life. In accordance with the guidelines, inpatient treatment is provided for suicidal patients across all diagnoses. This procedure is indicated for depressive patients with acute suicidal tendencies. Borderline personality disorder patients (BPD) differ. The inpatient treatment of BPD patients with suicidal expressions appears to be contraindicated, in the following frequent re-hospitalization occurs. The American APA also provides in its treatment guidelines that inpatient treatment and thus a process of psychiatry for BPD patients should be minimized. Patients learned to use the care system and seek inpatient treatment whenever life becomes more difficult. However, the question arises as what constitutes an appropriate approach in the treatment of BPD patients who communicate suicidally. In the first step of this research project, the different communication of suicidal tendencies between the two groups of BPD and depressive patients will be investigated. For this purpose, diagnosed BPD patients and depressive patients will be interviewed. Another aim is to find out whether a less intensive treatment setting such as day clinic is related to differences in the communication of BPD patients.
