Brief Summary in Lay Language

The study (N = 164) examines the effectiveness of the online intervention "Healingo Fit". "Healingo Fit" is a universal, structured intervention that aims to promote low-intensity physical activity in adults (age: 18+) in occupational settings. The intervention participants were given access to an online-based program consisting of four intervention modules for a period of 6 weeks. Physical activity was recorded via a step counter and synchronized with an online application. In order to assess intervention efficacy, various outcome parameters such as knowledge, intentions, self-efficacy and health behavior were determined in both the intervention and control groups directly before and immediately after the end of the intervention.

Brief Summary in Scientific Language

Using a randomized controlled study (N = 164), the effectiveness of the universal prevention program "Healingo Fit" was tested. Based on intervention theories Healingo Fit aimed at the promotion of low intensity physical activity in adults. The intervention has been developed for use in occupational settings. On the basis of the social-cognitive learning theory (Bandura, 1979) as well as central elements of the theory of planned behavior (Ajzen, 1991) and the health action process approach (HAPA) (Schwarzer & Luszczynska, 2008), four intervention modules were developed and linked using a gamification framework. Following well established outcome models of health promotion (Nutbeam, 1998), different outcome parameter were assessed before and immediately after the end of the six-week intervention. These include parameters on the level of individual knowledge, intention (HAPA Briefscales, Gholami & Schwarzer, oJ), self-efficacy (Health-Specific-Self-Efficacy Scales, Black & Racer, oJ) as well as parameters of individual activity behavior (IPAQ-SV, Hallal & Victora, 2004).

Interventions/Observational Groups

  •   "Healingo Fit" is a universal, structured intervention that aims to promote low-intensity physical activity in adults (age: 18+) in occupational settings. The intervention participants (n=80) were given access to an online-based program consisting of four intervention modules (daily step goals, quizzes, health targets and challenges) for a period of 6 weeks. Physical activity was recorded via a step counter and synchronized with an online application. Participants were asked to access the online interventions each day in order to participate in the intervention modules (e.g. quizzes or challenges).
  •   The control group was implemented in the form of a waiting group. In the course of the intervention phase, this group did not have access to the intervention or other measures.
