Interventions/Observational Groups

  •   There will be a total of 7 90-minute sessions over a period of 12-20 weeks (a 14-day rhythm is sought).
In session 1 it will elaborate what the couples most argue about (central partnership problem). According to this a therapy goal has to be developed and operationalized in this session.
The interventions to be compared will be applied in the session 2 + 3 or in the session 4 + 5 respectively. The interventions will change in the 4th session, a wash-out phase is not provided. In the 6th meeting, the clients can choose between 4 different hours contents (including imaginative exercise in terms of schema therapy).

Intervention A - Schema therapeutic imagination with respect to the central (biographical) Problem episode. In each case 1 partner plays the "child role". The other partner is guided by the therapist to respond adequately to his partner in schema therapeutic purposes. (eg discover "vulnerable child", satisfy corresponding needs, disempower punitive or demanding parents). This needs according to experience 1 meeting, so that the roles are exchanged in the 2nd meeting.

Intervention B - discussion of the central (biographical) problem episode of the respective partner. This is based on the concept of the biographic crucial expieriences after Zarbock (1994) and to the concept of the central biographical vulnerability.

Primary Outcome

Primary outcome is the qualitity of partnership: it is measured by 2 visual analogue scales, which the participants have to fill out daily between the 1st and 6th session (for a period of 12-20 weeks). One scale refers to the question "How close do I feel to my partner today?" which range from "very close" to "not at all". The other scale refers to the question "How well do we understand each other today?" which range from "very well" to "not at all". The participants have to mark a point on a 10 cm scale within the poles.
