Trial Description
Title
Prevalence and Risk Profile of Dental Erosion in Endurance Athletes

Brief Summary in Lay Language
Non-carious tooth structure caused lesions often result from combined effects of erosion, abrasion and attrition. Due to a mutual reinforcement here the erosion and abrasion occupy a special place. The "softening" and the immediately following removal of tooth enamel and dentin increase the loss of tooth structure dramatically. These phenomena were sometimes rather little attention in the past and were rarely mentioned at diagnosis positions. The prevalence of dental erosion in the population is rising steadily. Show data on the prevalence in the population that erosive tooth wear occur in any age group.
Individual special risk groups such as endurance athletes have been rarely studied in comparison to the general population in terms of prevalence of erosions. The main objective of the study is to determine the prevalence and the risk profile of dental erosions in endurance athletes. Here are amateurs, endurance sports (mainly triathlon) exercise, to be examined dentally. Using this data, it should be possible to determine the prevalence in this group as compared to a control group. Also, it is desirable to create a risk profile for endurance athletes that will help to establish improvements in preventive care of endurance athletes.
