Brief Summary in Lay Language

Examined are how the capacity to act is experienced by people with borderline personlity disorder as well as the social relationships they maintain. It will be looked at how the ability to act affects social relationships and conversely by observing interrelations how social relationships enable and constrain the capacity to act.

Brief Summary in Scientific Language

Research topics are the subjective perception and the development of human agency in relation to social support by social networks in people with borderline personality disorder. Also of interest will be in which way affected people´s agency has an effect on patterns of social networks. The study uses social network analysis and narrative analysis.

Primary Outcome

Each study participant will be polled only once through a network questionnaire. Following a cluster analysis representative cases will be asked for a single narrative interview without a follow-up study. Recruitment stops at theortical saturation (vgl. Glaser/ Strauss 1967: 112). The theory is considered saturated, when causal interrelations between subjective constructions of agency and network patterns have been established.

end of 1:1-Block primary endpoint
start of 1:1-Block secondary endpoint

Secondary Outcome

Alternative criteria for theoretical saturation: Clusters of network patterns and patterns of agency constructions can be observed, no matter if causal connections are found.
