David-Sackett-Award 2015 honors research to the discontinuation of randomized clinical trials

The German Network for Evidence-based Medicine (DNEbM) awarded the David-Sackett-prize on March 14, 2015 to a group of researchers from Switzerland, Germany and Canada (research leader Prof. Matthias Briel). Clinical trials are the basis of medical progress. In contrast to successfully completed studies, only less is known about discontinued studies. Briel et al. found out, that one quarter of 1000 studies started in universities in Switzerland, Germany and Canada were stopped and half of them weren't ever published.
